From the Mound to the Manger

A Christmas Devotional for Ballplayers, Coaches, Fans & Baseball Parents

“He made Himself nothing… being born in human likeness.” — Philippians 2:7

Every baseball player knows this truth: no matter how good you are, the game humbles you. The best hitters fail from time to time. The strongest arms still give up hits. Baseball has a way of keeping everyone grounded.

Christmas tells a similar story.

Jesus didn’t enter the world like a champion walking into a packed stadium. He came quietly—no spotlight, no applause, no scoreboard. The King of Kings chose a manger, not a throne. Power wrapped in humility. Strength restrained by love.

For players, parents, and coaches, this matters. Success can inflate the ego. Wins can distract us. But Jesus shows us real greatness: serving, sacrificing, staying faithful when no one’s watching. The Son of God didn’t need to prove Himself—He came to save.

Whether you’re chasing playing time, guiding a young athlete, or cheering from the stands, Christmas reminds us that character matters more than stats. Humility lasts longer than trophies.

Great seasons end. God’s purpose doesn’t.

Let’s Pray

Lord,

Thank You for sending Jesus in humility. Teach us to lead with character, to compete with integrity, and to stay grounded no matter the outcome. Help us reflect Christ in how we play, parent, coach, and live.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Live It

This week, choose humility. Encourage a teammate. Thank a coach. Serve your family without recognition. Remember the manger—and let it shape how you step onto the field and into the world.

Blessings In Christ,

The Team at Bibles and Baseball
