Rain Delays:

Few things frustrate baseball players more than a rain delay.

You prepare all day.

You get stretched out.

You go through warmups.

The lineup card is set.

Then suddenly the skies open up and everything stops.

Now everybody waits.

Players sit in the dugout staring at the field. Coaches check weather apps every five minutes. Parents wait under umbrellas wondering if the game will restart.

Nobody enjoys waiting because waiting feels unproductive.

Some of the hardest seasons in life are not losses.

They are delays.

The job opportunity gets delayed.

Healing gets delayed.

Answers get delayed.

Open doors get delayed.

Prayers seem delayed.

Sometimes God says “not yet.”

And when He does, we are forced to decide whether we will trust Him while we wait.

Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait on the Lord.”

Notice the command is not simply to wait.

It is to wait on the Lord.

There is a difference.

Anybody can wait angrily.

Anybody can wait fearfully.

Anybody can complain while waiting.

But faithful waiting means trusting that God is still working even when you cannot currently see movement.

A rain delay does not mean the game is canceled. It means conditions are being prepared for the right time.

In the same way, delays in life are not proof that God has abandoned you.

Sometimes He is protecting you.

Sometimes He is preparing you.

Sometimes He is strengthening your faith.

Sometimes He is teaching patience, humility, or dependence on Him.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles…”

God does important work in the waiting seasons.

Baseball players know that during a rain delay, you cannot quit mentally. You stay ready because at any moment the tarp may come off and the game may resume.

That is how believers should live.

Stay faithful.

Stay prepared.

Keep praying.

Keep trusting.

Keep obeying God even when you do not understand the timing.

Because God’s timing is never random.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He hath made every thing beautiful in His time…”

Not your time.

His time.

And His timing is always better than ours, even when it is harder.

If you are in a waiting season right now, do not waste it by doubting God’s goodness.

Rain delays eventually end.

And God has never failed to keep His promises.

Youth baseball team waits in the dugout after a rain delay as storm clouds clear and sunlight returns, illustrating faith and trusting God's timing.

Live It

  • Stop assuming delays mean God is absent.
  • Stay faithful in the waiting season instead of becoming bitter.
  • Use delays as opportunities to pray, grow, and trust God more deeply.
  • Remember that preparation seasons matter just as much as game days.
  • Keep your eyes on God’s promises, not just your current circumstances.

Let’s Pray

Lord, thank You for being faithful even in seasons of waiting. Help us trust You when life feels delayed and uncertain. Give us patience when we want immediate answers and peace when we feel frustrated by Your timing. Teach us to remain faithful, prepared, and obedient while we wait on You. Strengthen our faith during the delays and remind us that Your plans are always good.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings In Christ,

The Team at Bibles and Baseball
