Built on Sacrifice:
Fourth of July weekend is filled with flags, fireworks, and celebration. Before games begin, hats come off, people stand, and eyes turn toward the flag. Why? Because a flag represents sacrifice and freedom.
It represents soldiers who gave their strength, their comfort, and for many, their lives so others could live free.
Jesus said in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Freedom always costs somebody something.
Baseball players understand sacrifice too.
A coach sacrifices evenings after long workdays to throw batting practice and teach fundamentals. Parents sacrifice sleep, money, weekends, and vacations to get players to practices and tournaments. Players sacrifice comfort when they train, condition, and keep working when nobody is watching.
Great things are always built on sacrifice.
But every sacrifice we see in sports, family, or country points to the greatest sacrifice ever made: Jesus Christ willingly giving His life on the cross for sinners.
The cross is a symbol of sacrifice and freedom.
Jesus didn’t die because He was weak. He died because He loved us enough to take our place. He carried our sin, our shame, and the punishment we deserved.
Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Because Jesus sacrificed Himself for us, we are called to surrender our lives to Him.
That means following Christ when it’s unpopular.
It means choosing integrity over shortcuts.
It means honoring God on and off the field.
It means living for something bigger than yourself.
Jesus made this clear in Luke 9:23: “Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
Following Jesus is not about convenience. It is about commitment.
This Fourth of July weekend, remember this: A flag represents sacrifice and freedom. So does the cross.
One reminds us of freedom in our country. The other reminds us of freedom from sin.
And the freedom Jesus offers is eternal.
Live It
Thank the people who sacrifice for you — parents, coaches, military members, and mentors.
Stop treating Jesus casually- The cross cost too much for half-hearted faith.
Ask yourself honestly: Are you living for comfort, or are you living for Christ?
Do your prayers ask for a comfortable life more than they ask for God to be glorified through your life?
Declare today that Jesus is your Savior and follow Him fully, not halfway.
Let’s Pray
Lord, Thank You for the sacrifices made by those who serve and protect others. Thank You for parents, coaches, and leaders who give so much for the people they love. Most of all, thank You for Jesus Christ willingly dying on the cross for our sins. Help us never treat that sacrifice lightly. Give us courage to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow You with boldness and obedience. Thank you for the freedom to openly pray and worship you. Help us live for what matters eternally and glorify you.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessings In Christ,
The Team at Bibles and Baseball
