THE LIGHT THAT BROKE THE DARKNESS
A baseball game changes the moment the stadium lights flip on. One second the field is swallowed in shadows; the next, everything is visible. The game makes sense again—you can see the hops, the angles, the routes. Light brings clarity and confidence.
Christmas is God doing the same thing for us—turning on the light.
John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Jesus was born into a world confused by sin, weighed down by failure, and unsure of where to go next. And He was born at that time with a purpose.
Jesus didn’t just show up to inspire us or give us a few good lessons. He came because humanity needed what no human could provide. We needed a perfect life—and only a perfect Savior could live it. That’s why Jesus came fully God (so His life would carry divine power) and fully human (so He could stand in our place).
He lived the sinless life we couldn’t. He brought light into places we kept hidden. He revealed God’s heart with absolute clarity.
In baseball, you can fake effort, fake hustle, fake confidence—but you can’t fake results. Humanity had centuries of trying to “fix” ourselves, and the box score wasn’t pretty. Christmas is God saying, “I’m stepping in. I’ll take this at-bat.” Jesus entered the world to do what we couldn’t—and then offer His victory to us.
So when you see Christmas lights this year, remember: they’re a shadow of the real Light—the One who stepped into our darkness and defeated it from the inside out.
Live It
Pick one area of life where you need Christ’s light this week.
Players: Ask Jesus to shine on one habit or hidden struggle you need His strength to overcome.
Coaches: Seek His wisdom as you lead—invite Him to shape your words, tone, and decisions.
Parents: Bring His light home—choose patience, encouragement, and grace.
Fans & Volunteers: Be a positive force in your community; shine Christ’s light through your presence.
Don’t try to “play through the dark.” Let His light lead you.
Let’s Pray
Jesus,
Thank You for coming into our darkness—fully God, fully human—and living the perfect life we never could. Shine Your light in us and through us. Show us the areas that need Your truth, Your guidance, and Your strength. Lead our teams, our families, and our lives. Help us walk in the light You brought to this world.
In your Holy name we pray,
Amen.
Blessings In Christ,
The Team at Bibles and Baseball
