The Sound Of Summer:

There are certain sounds that instantly tell you it’s baseball season.

The pop of a fastball hitting the catcher’s mitt. The crack of the bats. Cleats digging into the dirt. Teammates laughing in the dugout. Parents cheering from the stands.

Those sounds are the soundtrack of summer.

They’re familiar; Comforting and joy-filled.

Those sounds should also remind us of something bigger: God is incredibly generous.

It’s easy to rush through baseball season focused on batting averages, tournament brackets, travel schedules, and win-loss records. We forget to enjoy the gift of the game itself.

Scripture reminds us that “every good and perfect gift is from above.”

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” — James 1:17 (NIV)

Baseball isn’t necessary for life. God didn’t promise us perfect weather, healthy knees, championship rings, or walk-off victories. Yet in His kindness, He gives us the opportunity for fun and joy.

A father playing catch with his son.

A little girl racing to first base with a smile bigger than the field.

A team celebrating their first double play.

Friends sharing sunflower seeds in the dugout.

Grandparents who wouldn’t miss it for anything.

These are all gifts.

God could have made a world that was merely functional—a place where we simply survived. Instead, He created sunsets that paint the sky, birds that sing, laughter that fills the air, and games that bring generations together. He loves us and delights in our joy.

The best moments won’t appear in the box score, but they often become the memories that last a lifetime.

Every cheer, every smile, every summer evening at the ballpark should stir gratitude in our hearts—not merely because baseball is enjoyable, but because it reminds us that our Father delights in blessing His children.

So the next time you hear the crack of the bat or the laughter from the dugout, don’t let it become background noise.

Instead, let it remind you to thank the One who gave you ears to hear it, people to share it with, and life to enjoy it.

The sounds of summer are more than the soundtrack of baseball.

They’re echoes of the goodness of God.

Live It

The next time you’re at the ballpark, take one inning to simply notice God’s gifts. Listen to the sounds around you. Watch the joy on the faces of children. Feel the warmth of the sun or the cool evening breeze. Before the next pitch is thrown thank God. Don’t rush past His goodness—receive it with gratitude.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for filling this world with reminders of Your goodness. Thank You for the sounds of summer, the game of baseball, and the people we get to share it with. Forgive us for becoming so focused on results that we overlook the gifts You place right in front of us.

Help us to be grateful for every opportunity to play, coach, cheer, and spend time with those we love. Teach us to hear the crack of the bat, the laughter in the dugout, and the cheers from the stands as reminders that every good gift comes from You.

May our joy never stop with the game itself but always lead us back to worship our God. Whether we win or lose, help us leave the ballpark with thankful hearts, knowing that Your goodness is greater than any scoreboard.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Blessings In Christ,

The Team at Bibles and Baseball
