Audience Of One

Baseball is full of pressure—from the crowd, the coach, teammates, and even social media. Everyone has an opinion about how you should play, what gear you should wear, or how you should act. It’s easy to get caught up in what’s popular or “in style.” But as followers of Christ, we’re called to play a different kind of game—one that honors God above all else.

Playing for an Audience of One means you don’t measure success by likes, applause, or attention. You measure it by faithfulness. It means choosing integrity when cutting corners could get you ahead, choosing humility when pride would get you noticed, and choosing purity when the world says “do what feels right.”

Sometimes that means standing out—or standing alone. Maybe it’s refusing to join in crude jokes in the dugout, or not celebrating in ways that don’t reflect your faith. Maybe it’s spending time in prayer before the game instead of scrolling your phone, or treating your opponent with respect when others mock them.

These choices may not be popular. They may not make you “cool.” But they make you faithful. God isn’t impressed by what’s trending—He’s looking for hearts fully devoted to Him.

When the cheers fade, when others question your choices, remember: you’re not playing for their approval. You’re playing for His glory.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)

Let’s Pray

Father, thank You for reminding me that I dont have to follow the crowd to please You. Help me to stay faithful, even when obedience isnt popular or easy. Give me courage to live out my faith on and off the field, and to make choices that honor You, not just the game. Teach me to keep my eyes fixed on You, my true Audience of One.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Live It

Before your next practice or game, ask yourself: Am I playing for approval—or obedience? Then choose one way to go against the flow for God’s sake—maybe by encouraging a teammate who’s left out, skipping a conversation that dishonors others, or spending time in God’s Word instead of chasing what’s trendy.

Play hard. Stand firm. Live bold. Because the only applause that truly matters comes from Heaven.

Blessings In Christ,

The Team at Bibles and Baseball
