Iron Sharpens Iron:
In baseball, the difference between a good player and a great player often comes down to practice, discipline, and teamwork. You don’t just show up and swing the bat once in a while—you hone your skills, listen to coaching, and push through when the game gets tough. You also hold your teammates accountable to a standard that is consistent with your practice and discipline.
Proverbs 27:17 tells us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Iron isn’t wood or clay—it’s strong, durable, and requires friction to become sharper. When two iron blades meet, they grind against each other, removing rough edges, making each sharper and more effective.
In life and faith, God designs relationships this way. He doesn’t want us to stay dull or weak. He puts teammates, mentors, and accountability partners in our lives—other “iron” people—who challenge us, encourage us, and sometimes even rub us the wrong way to refine us. Just like in baseball, if you only practice alone, you might maintain your skill, but you won’t improve to your full potential.
Live It
Identify Your Teammates: Who in your life challenges you spiritually, mentally, and morally? Be Open to Friction: Embrace constructive criticism and correction as God’s tool to refine you. Sharpen Others: Don’t just receive sharpening—speak truth in love and encourage growth in others. Ask God to show you where you need sharpening and who He has placed around you to help.
Let’s Pray
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the teammates, mentors, and friends You’ve placed in my life. Help me embrace the sharpening You provide through them. Give me humility to accept correction and courage to encourage others in love. Just as iron sharpens iron, let me grow stronger in faith, character, and love each day. Help me live with integrity and honor You in every part of the game of life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessings In Christ,
