Loved Before the First Pitch:

If you love baseball, you know the feeling.

You love the sound of the ball hitting the sweet spot. You love the dirt on your cleats. You love the grind of practice, the brotherhood of the dugout, the battle between the lines.

Baseball isn’t casual for you. It costs something. It demands something. And you give it willingly.

Now here’s the question: Do you understand that God loves you even more than you love this game?

Not with hype. Not with emotion that fades. But with an unbreakable, relentless, covenant love.

John 3:16 says it plainly:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

That verse isn’t just a slogan on a sign in the stands. It’s the theme of the entire Bible.

From Genesis to Revelation, the message is consistent: God loves His people.

Before you ever picked up a glove, before you ever struck out, before you ever sinned, before anyone ever cheered your name — God loved you.

Psalm 139:13–16 says “He formed you and knew you before you were born.” Jeremiah 31:3 says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Did you catch that? While we were still sinners.

Not after we cleaned up our act. Not after we fixed our attitude. Not after we proved ourselves.

While.

You don’t have to change before turning to God. You turn to God, and then He begins to change you.

Too many players, parents, and coaches think they have to get their life together before they approach God. That’s like saying you have to get in shape before you go to the gym. It makes no sense.

You come as you are. Then God does the transforming.

When you focus on how deeply you are loved by God, something shifts.

You stop playing for approval. You stop parenting out of fear. You stop coaching out of ego. You stop defining yourself by stats, wins, or scholarships.

If the Creator of the universe loves you completely, you don’t have to prove your worth to anyone.

And here’s something else that will change how you see the field:

You will never meet a person God does not love.

Not the umpire who missed the call. Not the rival team talking trash. Not the coach you disagree with. Not the difficult parent in the stands.

God loves them too.

That doesn’t mean He approves of everything they do. But it does mean His love extends further than our preferences.

When you understand that God’s love is the thread running through the entire Bible — creation, covenant, cross, resurrection — you start to live differently. You compete hard. You play to win. But you remember something bigger is happening than a scoreboard.

You are loved. Completely. Constantly. Unconditionally.

And that changes everything.

Live It

1. Play from love, not for love. You already have God’s love. You don’t need to earn it with performance.

2. Turn to God as you are. Don’t wait to “fix yourself.” If you’ve drifted, turn back today. Let Him begin the transformation.

3. See every person on the field as someone God loves. Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, umpires, and parents accordingly.

4. Lead with confidence rooted in identity. You are not defined by your batting average, your ERA, or your kid’s success. You are defined by the love of God.

Let’s Pray

Father,

Thank You for loving us before we were born and for loving us even while we were still sinners. Thank You that Your love is not based on our performance, our record, or our reputation.

Help us to turn to You just as we are. Give us the humility to stop trying to fix ourselves before coming to You. Transform us from the inside out.

Remind us that every person we meet — teammate, rival, coach, parent — is someone You deeply love. Teach us to compete with intensity but live with grace.

Anchor our identity in Your unconditional love. Let that truth change how we play, how we lead, and how we live.

In Jesus ’name, Amen.

Blessings In Christ,

The Team at Bibles and Baseball
